2024: Launching Authentigate and Expanding Smart-ID

15.01.2025

We kickstarted the year by opening the new SK service portal for our business customers simplifying purchasing and management of SK services and organizational certificates. This improvement followed the launch of our new corporate website at the end of 2023.

In our commitment to enhancing online security at an early age, and fostering financial literacy among the youth, we revamped the Smart-ID registration process by incorporating biometric registration for users starting from the tender age of 7.

In summer, we introduced Authentigate, a brand-new platform that revolutionizes user verification for e-services by offering a single integration solution via OpenID Connect protocol. By aggregating multiple identity verification providers, Authentigate enables businesses an efficient customer onboarding process, robust identity confirmation, and reliable age verification.

Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications honoured SK ID Solutions and our partners with the Collaboration of the Year award for our initiative aimed at strengthening cybersecurity among SMEs. The project, that started already in 2023, exposed significant vulnerabilities, highlighting the critical need for improved security measures and solid cybersecurity framework.

We expanded Smart-ID to Belgium, providing straightforward and secure identification for local banking applications, government services, and documentation platforms. This expansion marks Belgium as the fifth country to adopt Smart-ID in Europe. With active users in six countries, our approach adapts to local needs – from licensing in India to a tailored hybrid model in Iceland.

For the second consecutive year, we welcomed SK partners and industry experts to two engaging community events in Lithuania – SK Talks.

To provide greater insight into new digital solutions, authentication and integration options, as well as legislative initiatives in Latvia’s digital industry, we introduced a series of quarterly events – “Smart-ID Developers’ Breakfast.”

During the year, we introduced a new certification authority hierarchy, replacing the Estonian Certification Centre Root CA with a new root CA (ROOT G1) and intermediate certificates to enhance the security and integrity of the PKI system.

According to the report from the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) in Lithuania, the number of qualified e-signature certificates issued soared to 3,016,658, with 2,655,099, or 88%, issued with our services.
Furthermore, Smart-ID and Mobile-ID have become the first digital identity tools in Lithuania to be awarded state recognition for meeting the High Level of Assurance, following a comprehensive evaluation by the RRT in line with the EU’s eIDAS Regulation.

Smart-ID reached the Top 5 Most Liked Brands in Estonia, situated just after financial leader Swedbank and surpassing global tech innovator Apple. Meanwhile, Mobile-ID climbed significantly to share the 27th-28th positions, marking a notable improvement from the previous year’s ranking.

We sponsored the biggest international robotics festival Robotex International that brought together robotics enthusiasts from all over the world. We also supported the largest ethical hacking event for students in the Nordics and Baltics – Telia Cyber Battle that focused on raising awareness of cybersecurity among young people and educational institutions.

And last but not least, for the fifth consecutive year, SK ID Solutions received the prestigious AAA credit rating last year, placing it among the elite 1.7% of Estonian companies.
