More than 20 000 people have started using SK ID Solutions new electronic identity solution Smart-ID.
Since the official launch of Smart-ID, new users have continually joined the service and by today, Smart-ID already boasts more than 20 000 active users in the Baltics.
According to Liisa Lukin, the Business Development Manager of Additional Services at SK ID Solutions, Smart-ID has the largest number of users in Latvia, “In mid-February, Swedbank began offering the Smart-ID service in Latvia to their e-channel customers, which accelerated the process of new users joining the service. Other e-services in the Baltics, which offer their users a secure authentication method with Smart-ID, have also contributed to the rising number of users.”
Latvia already has 15 000 unique Smart-ID users, Estonia has 4000 and Lithuania nearly 1500.
In Estonia, the first e-services to offer authentication with Smart-ID were Starman, Tallinna Kaubamaja Grupp and eKool.
The innovative Smart-ID works on a simple principle: the user downloads the Smart-ID app from the Google Play Store or the App Store on to their smart device and identifies themself by using Mobile-ID or their ID-card. As with the ID-card and Mobile-ID, Smart-ID also requires the use of PIN1 and PIN2 codes which the user will create within the app. Using Smart-ID is free of charge.
