SK and Cybernetica are researching a new generation eID solution
The European Commission is renewing eIDAS regulation and on this basis, there are major changes to be expected in the field of European digital identity. To respond to the changing regulations and environment, SK ID Solutions together with Cybernetica AS is developing an architecture that supports transferring of digital identity and personal data according to security requirements and regulations. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
The new eIDAS 2.0 outlines the concept of a European Digital Identity Wallet – an application on a user’s device and a set of related information systems that enable the users to verify their identity, provide a digital signature and share information about themselves.
In order to provide next generation eID services corresponding to the updated version of eIDAS 2.0, SK is carrying out an R&D project that covers business, technological and social aspects, and creates a necessary base for the provision of these services. During the project, necessary preliminary work will be carried out to enable next generation eID solutions in line with the eIDAS 2.0 regulation and market needs.
The end goal of the project is to develop a new generation solutions that will increase the added value of the eID service and create a prerequisite for even more widespread use of eID, and thus, for more efficient business processes and cost savings.
The project lasts 18 months and is executed by SK ID Solutions in cooperation with Cybernetica AS. It is supported by the European Regional Development Fund grant in the amount of 1 438 494 euros. Part of the project is also financed from the partner’s own resources. The grant is coordinated by Enterprise Estonia.
