SK Together with Estonian ICT Association Promote Secure AI Usage
SK ID Solutions in collaboration with other Estonian ICT association members carried out a cyber security campaign about the secure usage of artificial intelligence. The initiative resulted in the establishment of best practices for AI systems’ development.
In recent years, AI has seen rapid developments, making it crucial for businesses of all sizes to strategically understand both the advantages and challenges of this emerging technology. While properly implemented AI can significantly enhance company efficiency, its integration into business processes must address cybersecurity, legal, and safety considerations.
Estonian ICT Association (ITL) members organized a cybersecurity campaign for the second time, this time the focus was on the secure use of AI. The campaign sought participation from small and medium-sized enterprises that had significantly integrated AI into their business processes and were willing to allow ITL security experts to assess the risks associated with their AI-based systems and products.
Kalev Pihl, CEO of SK ID Solutions and head of ITL’s information security advisory board, stated, “ITL considers the smart and well-managed adoption of AI as vital for maintaining and boosting Estonia’s competitiveness. However, businesses must recognize that this powerful tool brings new risks that need to be mitigated, avoided, or accepted.”
Moticheck, a management tool provider, and Flowit Estonia, a software firm, allowed close examination of AI applications in their products and overall information security practices during the campaign. Participating in the programme provided these companies with a fresh perspective on their services, helping them identify potential issues and generate ideas for further product development. Additionally, this effort enhances trust among both existing and potential customers, assuring them of the secure AI implementation by these companies.
The initiative also created “Good Practices for Developing AI Systems,” a set of best practices for AI solution providers. This document aims to outline reasonable expectations for AI services and was developed by the ICT sector for self-regulation purposes. The document can be found on the ITL website.
In addition to SK ID Solutions, other ITL member companies like Cybernetica, OIXIO, LeanDigital and CybExer Technologies also put effort into the campaign.
