Estonian National Electoral Committee included Smart-ID by SK ID Solutions as an official e-voting identification method starting from 2025 local government council elections. This addition offers Estonians another secure tool in addition to the existing ID card and Mobile-ID options for e-voting verification, paving the way for a more accessible and efficient e-voting experience.

Smart-ID, compliant with the highest trust level set by the European eIDAS regulation similarly to Mobile-ID and ID-card, is used by nearly 800 000 Estonians for their primary digital identification. This approval by the National Electoral Committee affirms the logical extension to support Estonia’s electoral integrity through most actively used, secure and highly trusted e-identification solution that aligns with these strict standards.

“We celebrate this long-overdue decision and enjoy with all our 800 000 Smart-ID users a possibility to use e-voting application with Smart-ID to fulfil our civic duty. Similarly to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have also recognized Smart-ID and Mobile-ID as state-approved tools for secure digital identification, extending the trust and efficacy of our solutions not only in Estonia but across the Baltic region.
